Greetings and Salutations,

We would like to introduce you to AGU session V034 entitled: Silicic blows and flows and how the transition goes. Please consider contributing to this session. We are searching for field-based, experimental, or modeling research that investigates pre-eruptive storage, eruptive ascent processes, or surface emplacement dynamics of silicic systems. For more information see the formal session description below. The invited speakers for this session are Jonathan Castro, Helge Gonnermann, Laura Waters, and Hugh Tuffen.

We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco.

Sincerely,

Your conveners (Kenneth Befus, Benjamin Andrews, Michael Manga, and James Gardner)

Session Description:

Silicic magma erupts both explosively and effusively. Pre-eruptive storage and degassing behavior control the style of eruption, but their interplay will impact the overall style of eruption and transitions between styles. Parameters must vary greatly between effusive eruptions too, as the forms of effusions vary from steep domes to extensive, large-volume flows. Recent effusions at Chaitén and Cordon Puyueyue give unprecedented insight into effusive eruptions and highlight the transition between eruptive styles, but are limited in their volume and rates. We seek submissions that explore silicic eruptions through investigations of pre-eruptive storage conditions, conduit processes during ascent, and aspects of effusive emplacement.
