Scope of Position:
As a research scientist, you will develop analytical methods for a diverse range of Corning products and deliver high quality results to contribute to new materials development, enable Corning innovation process and problem solving across various Corning businesses.
Essential Responsibilities:
As part of Science & Technology organization, you will work with an enthusiastic team of highly innovative scientists to execute research and development projects using new micro-XRF analytical technique for composition analysis of various materials. You will work both independently to execute Elemental analysis and become involved with a number of project teams to provide analytical solutions.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Develop micro-XRF capability to characterize small or fine structure materials to complement existing composition analysis tools.
Work with micro-XRF equipment vendors to further improve hardware/software design to accommodate Corning’s characterization needs.
Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot micro-XRF spectrometers.
Participate in project teams to provide material characterization solutions Responsibilities could extend to involvement in other fields of characterization such as Optical Spectroscopy.
Documentation of results and intellectual property.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Geochemistry or other related discipline.
Required Years and Area of Experience: at least 5 years of relevant experience
Required Skills:
Fundamental understanding of X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy.
Demonstrated instrumentation skill in Analytical equipment.
Hands-on experience in sample preparation and familiarity with general analytical laboratory practices. Experience in data analysis software and computer interfacing to analytical instrumentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in team environments. Strong interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Strong work ethic.
Desired Skills:
MS or PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Geochemistry or other Chemistry related disciplines Experience in other solid sampling characterization techniques such as LIBS, LA ICP-MS, TXRF, GD-OES, SEM, EPMA Working knowledge of statistics (MINITAB, Jump etc).
Track records of developing new characterization capabilities.

Open and engaging with customers. The ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate.
