Field Support Scientist

Earth Observatory of Singapore


The Earth Observatory in Singapore (EOS) does cutting-edge research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and climate change. We are looking for a person to lead acquisition, installation and maintenance of EOS’ field instruments that sample and measure compositions and other characteristics of volcanic gases, water, and the atmosphere.

This person will have an appointment in the Technical Office of EOS.


Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements:


The successfully candidate will hold a Polytechnic or University degree from a relevant field, with an advanced degree (MSc or PhD) preferred. He or she should have experience in operating and maintaining field instrumentation. He or she should also have hands-on experience with field and laboratory experience with water and gas samples, electronics, system integration, and signal processing. Basic knowledge of UV and IR spectroscopy and remote sensing would be an advantage. A science background would help the candidate to critically assess and maintain the quality of data.


The person we hire would support research requirements of EOS principal investigators, and would be an integral part of the research effort. A collaborative, team spirit is essential. An applicant will be based in Singapore but will involve significant time and collaboration at field research sites in the Philippines, Indonesia and other countries.
