Dear Volcano Listserve subscribers,

This is a reminder that July 15 is the deadline for submitting nominations for GSA's Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology & Volcanology (MGPV) Division's Distinguished Geologic Career Award.

"The MGPV Distinguished Geologic Career Award will go to an individual who, throughout his/her career, has made distinguished contributions in one or more of the following fields of research: mineralogy, geochemistry, petrology, volcanology, with emphasis on multidisciplinary, field-based contributions. This award emphasizes a geologic and multidisciplinary approach. Geologic work is by nature generalistic and has an important field component, with Earth as the natural laboratory. Nominees need not be citizens or residents of the United States, and membership in the Geological Society of America is not required. The award will not be given posthumously."

Instructions are on the MGPV award website (http://www.geosociety.org/divisions/mgpv/awards.htm). It's quite simple to nominate someone. You just need to provide: (a) a nomination letter from an MGPV member, (b) a CV for the nominee, and (c) 3 additional letters of support. This all goes to Alex Speer, the MGPV Secretary-Treasurer. Previous awardees: 2013 - Gerhard Wörner, 2012 - Jason B. Saleeby, 2011 - John M. Ferry, 2010 - Peter Lipman

What could be easier?

Nominations are active for 3 years (i.e., the last 2 years' nominations are still active).

Best,

Matt Kohn
Chair, MGPV DGCA committee
