Applications are invited for an outstanding research associate to work on a NERC-funded project “Self-organization and run-out of geophysical mass flows”. The post is part of a team studying controls of the run-out behaviour of debris-flows, pyroclastic flows and snow avalanches. The project is led by Professor Nico Gray at the University of Manchester and Professor Peter Kokelaar at Liverpool University and is interdisciplinary, using a combination of small- and large-scale experiments, field work, mathematical theory and numerical computations. The successful applicant will have experience that includes experimentation and will be able to apply, or learn, the other approaches. She/he must have a PhD in a relevant discipline e.g. experimental physics/geophysics or applied mathematics/mechanics, and a proven ability to publish research findings.
