Hydrovolcanism
in the Americas
From: "Gerardo Carrasco Nuñez" <gerardoc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> *************************************************************************************
Dear colleagues,
We invite and welcome your contributions to session V02: Hydrovolcanism in the Americas to be held at the 2013 AGU Meeting of The Americas in Cancun (Mexico), 14-17 May, 2013.
The interaction of water and magma is a common occurrence in nature. Phreatic and/or phreatomagmatic eruptions are usually involved, causing extreme explosivity that may produce maar-volcanoes as well as other types of volcanoes. Several parameters, such as water/magma ratio, confining pressure, vent geometry, magma composition, viscosity, and volatile fragmentation depth, are important controls in this process. In spite of the many papers documenting these phenomena, many questions remain regarding the physical processes involved, the role of aquifer, permeability of the country rocks, structural regime, etc. This session will benefit from the input of different approaches ranging from field examples of these processes to experimental studies or analog models.
The deadline for all submissions is 6 February 23:59 EDT/03:59 +1 GMT.
We look forward to seeing you in Cancun.
