Dear Colleagues:
We encourage you to
submit an abstract to IAVCEI session 2-2a - "High-level volcano
monitoring and data interpretation." The full session description is
below.
The 2013 IAVCEI Scientific Assembly will be held in
Kagoshima (Japan) on 20 – 24 July 2013. Deadline for Abstract
Submission is 31st JANUARY 2013.
Happy New Year,

----------------------------
Over
the past few years, technological advances have drastically improved
volcano monitoring practices. The establishment of high-rate GPS
networks, continuous gravity meters, dense arrays of broad-band
seismometers, and networks of instruments for the continuous measurement
of gas emissions is offering an unprecedented, multi-parameter view of
eruptive activity and subsurface magma transport. This progress has been
accompanied by the development of new models and data inversion
techniques, leading to innovative methods for the interpretation of
geophysical, geodetic, geochemical, and geological observations.
This session aims to bring together a multidisciplinary audience
for a thorough discussion about the most recent innovations in volcano
surveillance techniques, and to present observations, methods and models
that help to increase our understanding of volcanic processes basing on
high-resolution monitoring data.
In particular, we welcome contributions related to
(1) new instruments and technologies for the precise measurement of
geophysical and geochemical parameters, with particular emphasis on
approaches leading to improved sensitivity and increased spatial and/or
temporal coverage; (2) advanced forward-modelling methods for the
interpretation of observational data, and especially their significance
in terms of eruption forecasting; (3) advanced inverse methods that
account for multi-disciplinary data sets, complex source models, and
realistic material properties.
