Dear colleagues,
The Department of Earth Science, Pusan National University, South Korea is seeking up to three candidates for full-time, 1+1-year, Postdoc positions in Volcanology (modelling dispersal of volcanic ash and aerosol), as part of the Korea Volcanic Disaster Preparedness Research Program, commencing as soon as possible.
The main objective of the project is to assess the distal impact of volcanic ash and SO2 from possible eruptions from Mt Baegdu or Japanese volcanoes on South Korea infrastructures and air quality.
Candidates have to be able to model distal transport and deposition of volcanic ash (e.g., using Fall3d or equivalent models), to be an expert in remote sensing techniques (volcanic ash and SO2 retrieval), and/or able to use air quality models such as Flexpart, CMAQ or equivalent models.
A third position involving analysis of field data using empirical and analytical tephra models is also available.
The candidates will work with Prof. Jang and Prof. Yun, Earth Science, Pusan National University.
The contract will be 1+1 year and the salary about 2500 euro (3200 USD) per month (taxation will depend on the country of origin but not higher than 15%, and the living cost is lower than Europe).
The successful candidates are also expected to help teach Pusan National University students modelling and remote sensing techniques. Busan is a very lovely and dynamic city (the second major city in South Korea) located in the southern end of the Korean peninsula, only 2.5 hours from Seoul by high speed train, and very close to Japan.
Candidates should send their CV at: antonio.costa@xxxxxxxxxx by 16 November 2012.
