The Observatory of Volcanology and Seismology of Costa Rica, National
University, OVSICORI-UNA, announces a job position in field volcanology.

OBJECTIVES:
To develop projects of investigation focused on strengthening the gas
monitoring of the Costa Rican volcanoes. The candidate will be in charge of
writing and managing projects as part of the multi-disciplined program of
volcano survey at OVISCORI-UNA. Its work will focus on, but will not be
restricted to, in situ and remote techniques of gas monitoring of the plume
and the fumaroles, analysis of condensed, not condensed and humid phases, and
the interpretation of data.

FOCUS:
 - Investigation and monitoring of the geochemistry of volcanic gases
 - Measurements, sampling, analysis and interpretation of the composition,
concentration and flux of volcanic gases.

JOB:
Full-time job as an Academic Investigator at OVISCORI-UNA. The candidate will
start with an annually renewable one-year contract.

ACADEMIC GRADE:
Ph.D or Master degree in geochemistry, geophysics or volcanology (students
finishing their manuscript will be considered).

REQUIREMENTS:
 - Field work experience, especially on active volcanic terrains
 - Volcanic gas sampling experience with classic and modern techniques
 - Gas analysis capacity and interpretation of data ability
 - Good health and strong physical capacity
 - Ability to work in a multi-discipline team
 - Willing to training and specialization
 - Mobility to work at various places of the country
 - Working flexibility to be available in case of volcanic emergency
 - Willing to teach classes
 - Willing to publish in Spanish and English
 - Driving licence
 - Good skill in English and Spanish

SALARY:
The starting salary is modest (~12,000USD/yr) but significantly increases with
time and with the administrative processing of the candidate’s documents (~ 1-
2 years).
