Post-doctoral position in magmatic petrology

The Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Lausanne invites applications for a postdoctoral position in magmatic petrology. We are searching for a postdoctoral scientist in the field of magmatic petrology with a strong background in modern analytical techniques and/or petrological modelling. Ideally, the candidate should be able to conduct research quite independently, help with supervising PhD students, and participate in teaching.

The position is designed for a postdoctoral scientist with minimum two to three years of research experience in the fields of mineral chemistry, magma rheology and/or magma emplacement processes. The successful candidate is expected to help managing our electron microprobe laboratory (JEOL 8200 Superprobe) as well. Teaching experience would be a plus. The appointment will be on a full time postdoctoral level and will be funded initially for 1 year, with possible extension to 3 years. A Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences or related field is required.

The campus of the University of Lausanne is scenically located on the shores of Lake Geneva, a region of outstanding natural beauty offering a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere and an exceptionally high quality of life. The Institute of Earth Sciences offers modern lab and analytical facilities, more information may be found at http://www.unil.ch/img.

Please send applications electronically (PDF) to Prof. Othmar Müntener (othmar.muntener@xxxxxxx), Head of the Institute of Earth Sciences. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, publication list, and a summary of the research experience and interests. The University of Lausanne wishes to promote the access of women to academic careers and hence strongly encourages applications from qualified female candidates.

Application Deadline: Evaluation will begin one week after this announcement and continue until the position is filled.
