Dear colleagues:

Please consider submitting an abstract to what we think will be an excellent multidisciplinary session on observations and modeling of vulcanian eruptions at the 2012 AGU meeting.

V056. Vulcanian Eruptions: Field Observations, Experimental Constraints, and Integrated Modeling

Vulcanian eruptions result from the impulsive decompression, fragmentation and ejection of magma residing in shallow volcanic conduits. Despite a general understanding of these eruptive processes, a characterization of the controlling parameters in different volcanic systems and a standard procedure for reliable forecasting are still missing. Recent advances in multi-disciplinary monitoring and modeling have demonstrated the value of combining different but complementary techniques. We welcome innovative contributions on any of the above topics, with a particular focus on combined field observations, geophysical monitoring, laboratory experiments, and numerical models.
