Dear colleagues,
We warmly invite you to submit an abstract to our volatiles in volcanic glasses session at AGU, or just come along on the day and let off steam!
The abstract submission deadline is 8 August 2012: http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2012/
V053: Volatiles in Volcanic Glasses – Discriminating Between Primary and Secondary Volatiles
Description:
"Analyses of volatiles in volcanic glasses have important applications in petrology (e.g. determinations of magma reservoir depth, eruptive style and behavior), paleo-ice thickness reconstructions, archaeological dating and paleo-climate studies. Discriminating between primary (magmatic) and secondary (e.g. meteoric/hydrothermal) volatiles (e.g. by speciation, isotopic and textural studies) is crucial to their interpretation. This session welcomes investigations of (1) techniques to distinguish between primary and secondary volatiles, (2) hydration through analyses of experimental and natural samples, and (3) primary volatile concentration modification by chemical diffusion in glasses and melt inclusions."
