Post-doctoral opportunity at the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology
The Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology invites applications for a Post Doctoral appointment with a specialization in magnetotellurics and/or spontaneous potential applications in earth sciences. The term of the appointment is for one year with up to two additional years’ appointment. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with an excellent academic record and experience in multivariate data analysis, Matlab/C/Fortran, numerical and inverse code development, and geophysical data modeling applied to electromagnetic data. Prior field experience in MT/AMT is also highly desirable. The successful candidate will collaborate with an experienced team of geophysicists and geologists in the development of new capabilities using the MT/SP techniques and will apply the method to the mapping of structures and the evaluation of hydrothermal systems in Hawaii. A five station array of MT instruments will be available for use in an aggressive field survey program that will conduct linear and array soundings on Hawaii’s currently and recently active volcanoes. Interpretation of modeled sounding results will be supported by geologic data from borehole logs and core analysis.
Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, three professional references, and a 1-2 page statement of interest which should address candidate’s long-term research interests and career goals, to Donald Thomas (dthomas@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). The appointment is available immediately and will be for one year, renewable for additional years, with satisfactory performance. Salary/stipend support will range from $5000 to $6,500 per month depending on qualifications and experience.
