Funded PhD projects in volcanology at the University of Tasmania

Volcanology is major research strength of the School of Earth Sciences and Centre of Excellence in Ore Deposits at the University of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia (http://www.utas.edu.au). We are recruiting PhD students to join the team. Current research focusses on the architecture of silicic large igneous provinces, the effects of fluorine on silicic eruptions, the processes and products of submarine eruptions, and the dynamics of pumice-forming explosive eruptions. Applied research on volcanic host successions to ore deposits is also underway. Our research is supported by the best available microanalytical equipment including LA-ICPMS and melt inclusion laboratories.

Highly ranked PhD applicants may be awarded scholarships that provide a living allowance and also cover international student tuition fees (http://www.utas.edu.au/research/graduate-research/future-candidates). Applications for admission to the PhD program can be submitted at any time. Further information regarding possible projects, supervisors and the application process is available from Professor Jocelyn McPhie j.mcphie@xxxxxxxxxxx, Professor Vadim Kamenetsky dima.kamenetsky@xxxxxxxxxxx, Dr Sharon Allen sharon.allen@xxxxxxxxxxx, and Dr Rebecca Carey rebecca.carey@xxxxxxxxxxx.
