Dear Colleagues,
Please make note of the following postdoctoral opportunity at the University of Mainz:
Postdoctoral Research Assistant: Experimental petrologic constraints on magma storage and eruption at Andean volcanoes
The Institute of Geosciences at the University of Mainz is seeking to fill a post-doctoral research assistant position in the area of volcano petrology. The position is funded for 2 years with the possibility of extension for 1-2 years. The project will entail constraining the conditions of shallow crustal storage, ascent, and eruption of andesite magma at Ecuadorian and Chilean volcanoes, using an experimental petrologic approach and a range of analytical and imaging techniques.
The candidate will interpret natural geochemical and textural characteristics of andesite eruptives in the framework of controlled petrological experiments. Experience using hydrothermal autoclave and TZM apparatuses along with EPMA, µ-FTIR, and micro X-ray CT will be considered advantageous.
The Institute of Geosciences at Mainz has modern X-Ray µ-CT and µ-FTIR laboratories, collaborative links to Synchrotron radiation facilities in Europe and the USA, and newly built high-PT experimental petrology laboratory to carry out the work. A partial list of analytical facilities may be found here:

This is a non-permanent position in the pay scale E13 (TV-L). Specific compensation is dependent on experience. Interested applicants should contact Jonathan Castro (castroj@xxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:castroj@xxxxxxxxxxxx>) with a CV, statement of interest, and the names and email contact details of three references. More information about the Institute is available online: http://www.geowiss.uni-mainz.de/index_ENG.php
Best regards,
Jonathan Castro
