Research posts in Volcanology
Two research posts in volcanology are available from 1st January 2012 for 2 years as part of the VOLDIES project funded by a European Research Council Grant to Professor RSJ Sparks in the Department of Earth Sciences. VOLDIES concerns research into volcanic risk through development of databases and models of volcanic hazards, vulnerability and exposure. VOLDIES is part of a wider international project called the Global Volcano Model (GVM) concerning global volcanic risk and involving a global network of research institutions and insurance companies aimed at providing information on volcanic hazard and risk.
Post 1. Postdoctoral Researcher to develop models to characterise and forecast volcanic hazards and risk, and explore mitigation measures through models that integrate hazard, vulnerability, exposure and capacity information. Knowledge of probabilistic hazard assessment, stochastic modelling and volcanology are desirable. Post will suit a researcher with a PhD and some experience in volcanology or geohazards.
Post 2. Research Assistant to assist in the development and analysis of global databases of information on volcanic hazards. Knowledge of volcanlogy and geohazards desirable. Post seeks those qualified at the Masters or PhD levels.
