Dear friends,

the 16th paroxysm of Etna volcano in 2011 occurred yesterday afternoon (8 October) from the New SE crater between 2 and 5pm. Tom Pfeiffer, who was guiding a small group tour of VolcanoDiscovery, and the group were lucky to be able to witness the eruption from close range.
Although the weather was particularly bad during the peak phase of the eruption and the taller lava fountains during the climax of the event could only be heard, we present a series of photos to give you an idea of the event, involving the opening of a fissure with small curtains of fire feeding a lava flow into the Valle del Bove:
