The workshop will review the different seismic sources deriving from the geodynamics of the region and address key scientific issues regarding their seismogenic potential, as well as design programs to comprehensively monitor the active deformation and evaluate the related hazard. The goals of the workshop are also to establish a new initiative for cooperation in Central America and develop networks for exchange of ideas and expertise so to facilitate capacity-building and training of individual scientists from those countries where the need is greatest. The workshop will include invited lectures, contributed papers and panel discussions.
