Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to contribute an abstract to a special session on the using rock magnetism and paleomagnetism to understand volcanic processes (GP15) at the Fall AGU in December, 2011.

GP15: Using Rock Magnetism and Paleomagnetism to Understand Volcanic Processes

Description:

Description: Rock magnetic and paleomagnetic studies continue to improve our understanding of volcanic processes, involving all types and ages of volcanic products and their magma plumbing systems, including lavas, pyroclastic flows, and fall and reworked lahar deposits. In active volcanoes, paleosecular variation is increasingly considered a valid tool to date eruptions. Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility and remanence are rapid and reliable techniques to investigate the mineral fabric of rocks and thus infer flow directions in ignimbrites, lava and intrusions. Contributions integrating paleomagnetic, rock magnetic, and other geophysical and geological methods to study volcanic processes are particularly encouraged.
