Postdoctoral Fellow - Deep Carbon Observatory, Centre de Recherches Petrographiques et Geochimiques (CRPG)
We are looking for one post doctoral researcher to join the noble gas team at CRPG in Nancy, France. The noble gas laboratory at CRPG is well equipped with six noble gas mass spectrometers including four state-of-the-art multicollector mass spectrometers, two excimer laser extraction systems as well as an array of furnaces, crushers and purification lines.
The project aims to quantify the diffuse degassing of sub aerial volcanoes and rift zones using noble gases. High precision noble gas isotopic and abundance measurements will be made in air samples from actively degassing regions of the Earth using state-of-the-art analytical equipment specifically constructed for this purpose. In addition, gas abundance measurements will be made using state-of-the art quadrupole mass spectrometry and gas chromatography at the University of New Mexico, USA.
The successful candidate will have recently completed a PhD in geochemistry or atmospheric chemistry (noble gas or volcanic gas experience would be an advantage) and will have an in-depth understanding of mass spectrometers and their operation. The position is for a minimum of two years commencing September 2011.
