Motivated and enthusiastic students with excellent quantitative skills are invited to apply to fill a volcano seismology PhD position with our volcanology group at Michigan Tech. The project focus is source modeling of very-long-period volcanic earthquakes, incorporating tilt, infrasound, and gas-emission measurements. Funding is available for at least three years. An MSc in geophysics or closely related field is preferred, but not required. In addition to waveform modeling and multidisciplinary interpretation, applicants must be eager to conduct field work on remote volcanoes. Interested candidates should send their CV and a brief statement of interest Dr. Gregory Waite (gpwaite@xxxxxxx).

Michigan Tech is located in Houghton, MI, USA on the southern shore of Lake Superior. The university has a total student population of about 7000. The location is a superb outdoor environment far from cities, on the largest and most pristine of the Great Lakes and the midcontinental rift, Earth’s first continental flood basalt province, with excellent skiing, cycling, kayaking and wilderness activities. PhD programs are offered in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences. Interested candidates can learn more about the department programs, courses, and research at http://www.geo.mtu.edu.
