Dear Colleagues-
We write to make you aware of a special session at the 2011 Goldschmidt meeting, held 14-19 August in Prague:
Pb Isotopic Insights into Earth's Evolution: A Tribute to George R. Tilton (1923 – 2010)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Convenors: Julie Bryce, Barry Hanan, Kaj Hoernle, and Sam Mukasa
Keynote: Al Hofmann (Max-Planck-Institut für Chemie)
Lead (Pb) isotopic studies have provided a wealth of information key to deciphering Earth's origin and evolution. George Tilton pioneered many of the Pb isotopic methods used to constrain the primordial Pb isotopic composition of the Solar System, described the evolution of the depleted mantle, contributed to tight time constraints on the formation of the Solar System, developed U-Pb dating methods in continental rocks, most notably reporting the first U/Pb zircon age, and launched studies of mantle heterogeneity through his documentation of Pb isotopic heterogeneity in oceanic islands and carbonatites. The goal of this session is to bring together work celebrating George Tilton's legacy. Topics in Solar System primordial Pb isotopic compositions, Pb isotopic constraints in mantle geochemistry, and Pb applications in geochronology are especially welcome.
Please note abstracts are due by 15 April, and details on submission can be found here: http://www.goldschmidt2011.org/abstracts/instructions
Hope to see you in Prague!
All the best,
Barry, Kaj, Sam and Julie
