Dear Colleagues
We would like to draw your attention and invite you to contribute to the following session at Goldschmidt 2011 in Prague (August 14-19th) :
09c: Magmatic Volatiles: From Natural and Experimental Systems to Thermodynamics and Numerical Modeling. Their Influence on Magma Properties
Volatiles exert a strong control on the magma properties and eruptive dynamics. Tracking their behavior in magmas is fundamental to understand the degassing processes. The session will be focused on measurements of magmatic volatiles in natural systems (i.e. melt inclusions), solubility experiments, and numerical modeling. It would give the opportunity to bring together researchers working on (i) experimental solubility of multicomponent fluids in melts, (ii) pressure-related volatile evolution in natural magmas, (iii) the effect of volatiles on magma crystallization and rheology. Contributions on stable isotope fractionation during magma degassing are welcome, in particular isotope measurements in natural melt inclusions.
Convenors: Nicole Métrich and Roman Botcharnikov
Keynote speaker : Charles Mandeville (US Geological Survey Reston, VA, USA)
The abstract deadline is April 15th
