UGG2011 ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 11.59PM (GMT) MONDAY 7TH FEBRUARY IN RESPONSE TO MANY REQUESTS
The IUGG2011 Organising Committee has received many requests to extend the  abstract submission deadline to allow for late submissions due to difficult circumstances in numerous countries. Many scientists in countries experiencing financial hardship are having difficulty in securing funding commitments to attend the conference, and in some countries telecommunications are currently very difficult due to political turmoil. We would like to give those scientists as much chance to participate as our organisational schedule will allow.
The IUGG2011 abstract submission website will therefore remain open until 11.59 p.m. (Greenwich Mean Time; GMT) on Monday 7th February. The abstract submission system will be closed down at that time to allow processing of the many thousands of abstracts received to begin. NO FURTHER ABSTRACTS CAN BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE 7th February DEADLINE EXPIRES. THIS IS FINAL.
Late on the evening of Tuesday 1st February, Eastern Australian Summer Time, the number of abstracts submitted to the conference is already 5,000. With the announced extension of the abstract submission deadline to 7th February, we now expect well over 6,000 abstracts, making the IUGG2011 General Assembly one of the biggest ones. It is thus going to be a big conference with a lot of exciting science, great opportunities for networking with colleagues in the state of the art Melbourne Convention Centre, and with some great pre- and post-conference IAVCEI fieldtrips in Australia and its volcanically active neighbouring countries. After the conference, take the opportunity for some vacation touring in Australia or New zealand with their exotic flora and fauna.
So if you had not yet decided  to attend IUGG2011 to present your research, now that we know it will be a successful conference, now is the time to decide to come, to make sure you don't miss this great scientific event. You have this week left to submit your abstracts on-line to the IUGG2011 conference website by 7th February. Go to
http://www.iugg2011.com
for all information about the conference, submitting abstracts and registering.
The Australian and New Zealand scientific community is looking forward to welcoming international colleagues to IUGG2011 in Melbourne, Australia, from 28th June to 7th July, this year. The IAVCEI Scientific Program of symposia will be focused in the period from 2nd to 7th July, so be sure to arrive in Melbourne by the 1st July. If however, you would like to take advantage of the unique opportunities for truly interdisciplinary science at IUGG2011, come earlier. There are some great airfare deals available at present.
