Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite submissions to

Session NH2.1/GMPV36: Models and observations for assessing hazards due to volcanic activity

of the EGU General Assembly in Vienna, Austria. 03 Apr 2011 - 08 Apr 2011

Abstract:
Volcanic eruptions are devastating natural phenomena. The diversity of volcanic activities can generate different hazards and impacts on people
and land and require different approaches to hazard assessment. Due to complexity and highly nonlinear processes involved, assessment of
volcanic hazards must be based on a multidisciplinary approach. Numerical models of volcanic systems, laboratory studies, field observations and
statistical analyses make a basis for an accurate understanding of volcanic hazards and consequent development of complex protection plans.
This session is thus aimed to bring together modellers, field geologists, hazards assessors and risk managers in order to discuss modern
methods of hazard assessment related to volcanic systems. Presentations that combine different methods for hazard assessment and risk
mitigation are particularly welcomed.
Please see http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2011/home.html for details of the meeting.

Abstract submission deadline: 10 January 2011.
We hope to see many of you in Vienna.

Best wishes,

Oleg Melnik, Antonio Costa and Costanza Bonadonna
