VOLCANO: IUGG 2011 Session: V12 Tectonic Controls on Volcanism

We encourage researchers to submit abstracts for the following
symposium at the IUGG Conference, 28 June-7 July 2011, Melbourne,
Australia.

IAVCEI Symposium V12: Tectonic Controls on Volcanism

Lead Convenors: Jim Cole (New Zealand), Darren Gravley (New Zealand),
Agust Gudmundsson (UK)

Scope: There is a clear link between volcanism and tectonism, yet the
cause and effect relationship can be difficult to decipher. This
symposium will explore the interplay between tectonics, volcanoes (and
magmatism) in different tectonic settings from the continental scale
down to individual volcanic eruptions. In particular, we encourage
contributions that explore 1) volcanism associated with rift
propagation and continental break-up, 2) the influence of the
downgoing slab on arc volcanism, 3) extension in arc settings, 4)
structural setting of calderas, 5) regional structural controls on
magma accumulation and storage, 6) tectonic triggering of eruptions,
and 7) penecontemporaneous faulting associated with cone and caldera
eruptions.

Abstracts are due 17 January 2011. Information can be found at www.iugg2011.com
