********************************************************************************** IUGG session on Kimberlite Volcanism From: lporritt@xxxxxxxxxx ********************************************************************************** Dear Colleagues, We would like to bring your attention to the Kimberlite Volcanology session (V15) at the upcoming IUGG conference, Melbourne, Australia (28 June – 7th July 2011). Scope: Significant advances have occurred in recent years in understanding the nature of kimberlite volcanic systems. However, there remain many unresolved issues, including: i) the composition and origins of kimberlite and related magmas, ii) the volatile contents (species and abundance) of these same magmas, iii) the physical processes governing the opening and evolution (e.g., geometry and dimensions) of conduit and vent systems during volcanic eruptions, iv) the duration and style of volcanic eruptions, v) the dynamics of kimberlite eruption columns relative to other explosive volcanic systems, vi) the transportation and depositional processes governing the infilling of kimberlite pipes, vii) factors that influence diamond populations during magma ascent and eruption/deposition, viii) syn- to post-emplacement alteration processes Keynote Speakers: Professor Ray Cas (Monash University) & Dr. Richard Brown (Open University) Invited Speaker: Bruce Kjarsgaard (Geological Survey of Canada) We invite contributions on any of the aspects mentioned above. Please go to the IUGG web page for more information on the conference and how to submit your abstracts online. Submission deadline is 17th January 2011 http://www.iugg2011.com/default.asp We hope you can join us.
