AGU P20: Explosive Volcanism in the Solar System
Description: The purpose of this session is to explore our current understanding of explosive volcanism in the solar system. The session will highlight and address outstanding questions in the field, promote collaboration and discussion between researchers who focus on planetary and Earth-based problems, and help to guide future research in this discipline. Topics may include (but are not restricted to) magma formation, effusive vs. explosive eruptions and eruptive triggers, cryovolcanism, volcanic processes (e.g., eruption column and density current dynamics), preservation of volcanic features, and recognizing and interpreting morphological and/or compositional characteristics of explosive volcanic deposits from landers and orbit.
