"Volcanoes and society: environment, health and public outreach"
International Lithosphere Program Congress
"Solid Earth - Basic Science for the Human Habitat"
Potsdam, 6-8 October 2010
Dear Colleague,
I am pleased to invite you to participate in the International Lithosphere Program congress in Berlin (Potsdam, 6-8 October 2010), where I will convene (together with Proff. U. Dogan and M. Dogan) the session "Volcanoes and society: environment, health and public outreach".
This session deals with the presentation of works related to the various aspects of volcanism that are remarkable for society, therefore embracing geological, petrographic, structural, volcanological, geological engineering, etc, studies related to recent/active volcanoes; the evaluation of dangerousness and risk; the environmental aspects; the relationships between dangerous minerals, volcanic phenomena and human health; and the methods to enhance public outreach and awareness raising.
Deadline: May 30, 2010
The other sessions:
- 1 From microseismicity to large earthquakes: studies related to seismic hazard assessment, carbon sequestration and sustainable resource management.
- 2 Continental collisional orogens: from atomic scales to mountain buildings.
- 3 Probing subduction zones: what is the physical nature of the subduction channel?
- 4 3d geomechanical modelling of geodynamic processes in the lithosphere.
- 5 Tracking supercells through earth history.
- 6 What is the lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary?
- 7 Mantle dynamics and plate architecture beneath north Africa.
- 8 Circum-Arctic lithosphere evolution.
- 9 Sedimentary basins.
- 10 Volcanoes and society: environment, health and public outreach.
The congress fees have been kept very low thanks to a generous contribution from ILP: the 50 Euro registration fee (20 Euro for students) include the proceedings, the admission to the three-days conference, three lunches, an evening gala dinner, the coffee breaks.
