Dear Colleagues,

We would like to bring to your attention and encourage contributions to the following special session that will take place during
the Goldschmidt 2010 Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee, June 13-18, 2010 (see http://www.goldschmidt2010.org/)
ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY  21, 23:59 EST.

A brief description of the session is listed below:

Goldschmidt 2010 Conference
Session 10c  Developing a Better Picture of Earth’s Deep Sulfur Cycle

Sulfur is a ubiquitous element on Earth with variable oxidation allowing for its participation in many geochemical processes e.g., core formation, ore deposits,
climate-forcing aerosol, to essential nutrient for life. Sulfur isotopes have been utilized as a tracer chemical equilibrium processes and biogenic activity. However,
application of sulfur isotopes to high temperature and pressure equilibria and or kinetic processes necessary for understanding the cycling of sulfur between the core,
mantle, hydrosphere and biosphere has been hampered due to lack of fundamental experimental fractionation data. Recent development of in situ sulfur isotopic
measurement via ion microprobe, speciation by XANES, high temperature and pressure fractionation experiments, and analysis of multiple sulfur isotopes will allow for
a reevaluation of the cycling of sulfur among Earth’s major reservoirs. This session welcomes contributions from the analytical, experimental and stable isotope fields.

Convenors:  Charles Mandeville email: cmandy@xxxxxxxx,   Nobumichi Shimizu email: nshimizu@xxxxxxxx,  Nicole Keller email: nkeller@xxxxxxxx

We hope that you consider contributing to this session and hope to see you in Knoxville!

Sincerely,

Charles Mandeville
Nobumichi Shimizu
Nicole Keller
