Dear colleagues,

Call for Papers – CoV6 Tenerife, 31 May to 4 June
2010.

Abstracts are invited for the following session:

3.5 Natural Resources in Volcanic Environments:
Geothermal Springs, Soils (Balneology,
Agriculture...)

Session Abstract

Areas with active and dormant volcanoes commonly
feature natural hot springs and/or other geothermal
resources (e.g. geysers, sinter terraces, mud pools)
which are very attractive to visitors.

Geothermal springs are used for a number of
purposes; largely for their beneficial effects on
health and wellbeing, but also for commercial
purposes such as heating, drying of produce, aqua
culture and power generation). Natural resources of
volcanic origin have been integrated in destination
marketing as unique attractions (geothermal power
stations in Iceland are popular) and play an
important role in different tourism sectors: health
and wellness tourism, medical tourism, leisure and
recreation, adventure tourism, or just plain sight
seeing.

Additional long-term effects of volcanic deposits
have resulted in fertile agricultural lands near
volcanoes with mineral-rich volcanic soils as well
as other volcanic deposits which are commercially
exploited.

This session will focus on:

The importance of natural resources and by-products
of volcanic activity such as volcanic hot springs
and fertile agricultural lands near active and
dormant volcanoes

Proposals for papers are welcome from all areas
addressing natural resources in volcanic
environments.

Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be sent
to the convenors Dr Malcolm Cooper and Antonio
Rodríguez Rodríguez by 28 February 2010.

For more details and to submit an abstract, please
