NH2.1/GMPV11
Hazardous volcanic flows

Convener: Oleg Melnik
Co-Conveners: Helene Massol, Antonio Costa, Micol Todesco

Volcanic eruptions are devastating natural phenomena. The diversity of volcanic styles and flows induce different hazards and impacts on people and land. Furthermore, because of the complexity and highly non linear processes involved, management of volcanic crisis must be based on a multidisciplinary approach. Modelling studies of volcanic systems, geological reconstructions of eruptive history of particular volcanoes and development of complex protection plans are all necessary to progress toward accurate management of volcanic hazard. This session is thus aimed to bring together modellers, field geologists, hazards assessors and risk managers in order to discuss modern methods of hazard assessment related to volcanic flows. Presentations that combine different methods for hazard assessment and risk mitigation are particularly welcomed.
