DESCRIPTION
“Earth on Fire – How Volcanoes shape our Planet” features a wide range of volcanic phenomena and geothermal formations, mostly seen from the air - huge ash clouds of Mount Etna in Italy and lava fountains of Nyamulagira volcano in Congo, acid crater lakes in Central America, hot springs in New Zealand and Yellowstone/USA. Beside the “fiery and hot stuff” the book shows famous volcanic giants and their surrounding landscapes photographed from a small aeroplane or helicopter, for example Mt. St. Helens and Crater Lake in Washington, Cotopaxi and Tungurahua in Ecuador,  Gunung Agung in Bali and its neighbours on Java/Indonesia, the Kamchatkan volcanic chain in Russia and various African volcanoes along the East African Rift Valley – from Djibouti and Ethiopia to Kenya and Tanzania.
The book is divided in five chapters following the tectonic plates with an introduction and a text part about key volcanic phenomena and events.

CHAPTERS
Introduction, Indoaustralia, Europe, Africa, North America and the Pacific, South and Central America and the Caribbean, Volcanology, Glossary, Index.

THE AUTHORS
Bernhard Edmaier (b.1957) is a photographer and geologist who has photographed the earth for more than 15 years, focusing on places where its surface has been shaped by natural forces alone, without human intervention. His knowledge of the structure of the earth and its geological development forms the basis of his work and his aerial photographs have contributed greatly to our understanding of the planet`s surface. His work is published regularly in magazines and exhibited internationally.
Dr Angelika Jung-Huettl (b.1957) is a geologist and writer who contributes to a number of different newspapers and popular scientific magazines. She has worked and travelled with Edmaier for more than 10 years and has written several books on volcanoes, ice and glaciers.
