The Department of Geoscience at the University of Iowa has an opening for a
Post-Doctoral Fellow in igneous petrology and geochemistry. We are seeking
an enthusiastic and capable individual that is interested in working on
projects related to volcanism in the Izu-Bonin-Mariana arc, as well as the
time scales of magma degassing and crystal growth. Prior experience with
whole rock and glass analysis for element concentrations, radiogenic
isotopic compositions, and U-series nuclide abundances, and/or volatile and
trace element concentrations in mineral-hosted glass inclusions is required.
Experience with managing a geochemisty laboratory is desirable. The position
is for one year, with the potential for an extension for a second year. The
preferred start date for the position is October 1, 2009, but other start
dates will be considered. Candidates will begin to be evaluated on August 1,
2009. Women and members of underrepresented minorities are especially
encouraged to apply. The University of Iowa is an affirmative action / equal
opportunity employer.
