Postdoctoral Research Associate (volcanology/ petrology/ geochemistry) University of Durham (UK) Department of Earth Sciences Salary: £29,704 per annum A NERC-funded postdoctoral position is available to investigate; The importance of crystal exchange and magma mingling in volcanic systems: eruption-triggering mechanisms and timescales working with Jon Davidson, Ed Llewellin and Dougal Jerram (Durham) and Dan Morgan (Leeds). The successful candidate will integrate several approaches; textural quantitative analysis, in situ geochemical analysis of crystals and glasses, analogue experiments and diffusion modelling to examine the problem of how crystals are transferred between magmas, and over what timescales. We are therefore looking for an individual with a PhD preferably in volcanology/petrology/geochemistry with relevant experience in trace element/ isotope geochemistry, petrography and modelling. We expect the position to start from April 1 2009, it is fixed-term for three years Vacancy reference: 3046. Closing date: 2 March 2009.
