The Mineralogical Society of America ANNOUNCES:

The 2010 MSA Grant for Research in Crystallography, Mineral Physics,
Mineral Chemistry, and Mineralogy
from the Edward H. Kraus Crystallographic Research Fund
with contributions from MSA members and friends.

The grant comprises up to $5000 for research in crystallography.

Students, including graduate and undergraduate students, are
encouraged to apply, in addition to young researchers. However, all
proposals will be considered together. The award selection will be
based on the qualifications of the applicant, the quality,
innovativeness, and scientific significance of the research, and the
likelihood of success of the project. The only eligibility requirement
for the grant is that the applicant must have reached his or her 25th
birthday but not yet have reached his or her 36th birthday on the date
the grant is awarded (next in January 2010), and that the person is
not an MSA Councillor.

The grant is for research-related expenses only. Travel to meetings,
conferences, short courses, non-research field trips, tuition,
non-research living (room and board) expenses, etc. are not suitable
uses of the money. Neither should the money be used for salary or
wages for the researcher. Proposals that make such requests will not
be considered further.

The next award will be made in January, 2010. Application forms for
the grant may be obtained at
