Last minute recall: we would like to invite abstracts for the
following session, European Geosciences Union, General Assembly 2009,
Vienna, Austria, 19 – 24 April 2009

"NP3.08 Solid Earth geocomplexity: surface processes, morphology and
natural resources over wide ranges of scale" session

Conveners: H. Gaonac'h, Q. Cheng

Geocomplex processes and structures occur in the Earth over wide
ranges of scale. The underlying non-linear dynamics yield
hierarchical, scaling distributions, space-time fractals sets and
fields, self-organized critical events. The corresponding nonlinear
statistical approaches using wavelets, fractals or multifractals,
self-organized criticality provide robust, natural yet simple ways of
analyzing and modelling these complex geosystems. Such processes are
often characterized by scale independent exponents which can be used
for simulations and forecasting.
While contributions are solicited in all areas of solid earth and
surface geosciences, this year we will emphasize contributions on
natural resources (including the distribution of minerals, ore
deposits, petroleum reservoirs, geothermal activity) as well as on
Earth surface processes (including volcanic, erosional and tectonic
processes). Analyses of remotely sensed, topographic, geochemical and
geophysical data are welcome.
The deadline for abstract submission is JANUARY 13, 2009.

To submit abstracts: http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2009/session/1073

Sincerely, Hélène Gaonac'h, UQAM, Canada
Qiuming Cheng, York University, Canada
