Department of Earth Sciences, Bristol University, UK From: Stephen Sparks <Steve.Sparks@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> ***************************************************************************************************************** A four-year Research Assistant post (vacancy ref. 14450) is available to manage and develop the VOGRIPA database on global volcanic hazard and risk. VOGRIPA is an international project aimed at developing a global database on volcanic hazards and risks. VOGRIPA is part of the Global Risk Identification Programme (GRIP) under the auspices of the United Nations and World Bank. GRIP is a five-year programme aiming at improving global knowledge about risk from natural hazards. VOGRIPA has been officially endorsed as a project of GRIP and by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). VOGRIPA is also an activity of the Commission for Explosive Volcanism of IAVCEI. Professor Stephen Sparks is leading the VOGRIPA project at Bristol University (UK). Partners in VOGRIPA currently include the Smithsonian Institution, Munich Re, the Geological Survey of Japan, Université Blaise Pascal, France and the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. The project is supported by grant from the European Research Council. The position is available full-time and is located at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Bristol, UK. The post is both within the Volcanology Research Group and the newly formed Bristol Environmental Risk Research Centre (BRISK).
