The posts are offered on a three year fixed term, full-time basis with the option of extension. Applicants must have a PhD in Earth Sciences or a related field at the time of appointment. Suitable backgrounds may include any combination of physical volcanology, volcano seismology, geodesy, geochemistry and petrology. Evidence of strong mathematical/numerical skills is essential. Experience in the use of volcano monitoring techniques and residential experience at a volcano observatory would be essential. The principal responsibility of the successful candidates will be to assist with the monitoring of the ongoing eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano on Montserrat. Depending on their area of specialization the successful candidates will be responsible for leading the monitoring and research efforts at the MVO in the four broad areas of seismology, gas monitoring and petrology, ground deformation and dome volume and geology. Applicants should supply (a) a curriculum vitae (b) a statement of past achievement and future research interests and goals and (c) postage addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of at least three references to: Richard Robertson, Director, Seismic Research Centre, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad. Email: richie.robertson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To receive full consideration, all materials must be received by 30 November 2008. Intended starting date is 1 April 2009 or earlier by arrangement. Applicants should note that for the next five years the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) will be jointly managed by the UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC) and the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP). This brings the Caribbean's only currently erupting volcano back under the watch of regional scientists and provides significant opportunities for advancing geoscience research in the region. ============================================================== To unsubscribe from the volcano list, send the message: signoff volcano to: listserv@xxxxxxx, or write to: volcano-request@xxxxxxxx To contribute to the volcano list, send your message to: volcano@xxxxxxxx Please do not send attachments. ==============================================================
