The Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Geosciences of the University
of Mainz  (Germany) has an opening for a
Professor of Volcanology  (salary scale W2) in the Department of
Geosciences as from April 2009.

The ideal candidate will have his/her research interests centred on
volcanology and volcanic processes with emphasis on field aspects. An
active interest and engagement in the University's new research centre
for Earth System Science ("Geocycles") is expected. Here, volcanology
plays a integrative role between geology, palaeoclimate, archaeology
and atmospheric sciences.

Apart from an international reputation for high quality in research,
we are looking for a scientist with proven capabilities in teaching
(geology and volcanology), leadership and in the procurement of
research funding.

The successful candidate must have a PhD and a "Habilitation" or
comparable scientific qualifications. The Johannes
Gutenberg-University is an equal opportunity employer with a policy of
