Research Associate in Experimental Petrology (ref. 14185) Department of Earth Sciences, University of Bristol, UK For full details please see <http://www.bris.ac.uk/boris/jobs/ads?ID=73744> You will be associated with the research group of Professor Jon Blundy, but will be expected to work closely with Dr. Michael Walter and Dr. Simon Kohn. There will also be opportunities to forge collaborative links with others across and outside the department; for instance, the Geochemistry and Geophysics research groups and researchers in Chemistry and Physics interested in materials synthesis. You will be active in managing the experimental facility, designing and carrying out experimental projects, co-supervising PhD and Masters students, submitting grant applications to UK funding bodies, and writing research papers for publication. You should have a PhD in experimental petrology or geochemistry and have considerable hands-on experience of experimental petrology apparatus, including solid media (piston cylinder, multi-anvil), 1 atmosphere vertical quench furnaces with gas mixing capability, and cold-seal hydrothermal apparatus. The post, which is available from 1st October 2008, is fixed term for four years, with the possibility of becoming permanent. If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience.
