Dear colleagues, please consider attending the following training courses:

INTERNATIONAL TRAINING COURSES ON SEISMOLOGY, SEISMIC DATA ANALYSIS,
HAZARD ASSESSMENT AND RISK MITIGATION
October 27 – November 28, 2008

The 2008 International Training Courses are jointly organized by GFZ
Potsdam and Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica; the course circular,
scientific program, and application form can be found under the
website
http://www.gfz-potsdam.de/portal/-?$part=CmsPart&docId=2137698
The participants will learn theoretical and practical fundamentals in
volcano and applied seismology. The program is particularly useful for
seismological station and network operators, data interpreters and
those concerned with seismic zoning and hazard assessment. These
postgraduate crash courses are part of the educational and training
program of the UNESCO in the field of geosciences and disaster
mitigation.

The 5-week course will take place at OVSICORI
(http://www.ovsicori.una.ac.cr/), which belongs to the Universidad
Nacional (UNA, Heredia, Costa Rica). We especially encourage
applications from young geoscientists and engineers from countries in
Central and Southern America. Course fees and accommodation will be
fully covered by our sponsors. Additional fellowships to cover travel
costs are available to selected candidates.

Further information as well as contact addresses are provided on the website
http://www.gfz-potsdam.de/portal/-?$part=CmsPart&docId=2137698
