****************************************************************** POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW IN VOLCANO MODELLING at Leeds, UK ****************************************************************** From: Jurgen Neuberg <J.Neuberg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> THE UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS SCHOOL OF EARTH SCIENCES INSTITUTE OF GEOPHYSICS &TECTONICS POSTDOC POSITION IN VOLCANO MODELLING This post is funded by NERC in the Framework of the NCEO (National Centre for Earth Observation) theme The Dynamic Earth and Geohazards and is available from October 1, 2008 for a fixed period of two years with the possible extension for one more year. Research is primarily in volcano modelling and will involve numerical simulations of magmatic processes, magma flow, and the related seismic wavefield in magmatic environments. Work will be based on the analysis of seismic as well as other datasets from Soufriere Hills volcano, Montserrat, West Indies. Emphasis will be on the development of computer codes to simulate different magmatic processes and their impact on stress changes in the magma and the volcanic edifice. Candidates must have a PhD in Geophysics, Physics or Geology and should have research experience in one of the relevant areas of volcanology, preferably volcano modelling, and be familiar with scientific programming in a Unix environment. Some travel abroad may be required. Responsibilities will include: (i) the development and systematic application of numerical modelling methods of magmatic processes such as magma flow, magma degassing, related stress accumulation and deformation. (ii) the involvement in the maintenance and data archiving of a multi-parameter geophysical observatory on Montserrat, West Indies. (iii) publication of results in international conferences and journals. University Grade 7 (£28,290 - £33,780 p.a.)
