*************************************************************** From: Sven Borgström <sven@xxxxxxxxxx> *************************************************************** Good morning, I'm Sven Borgström, from the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, section in Naples. This is just to inform you that my Institution, together with the Italian National Research Council and with the support from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) is going to organize the Second Workshop on the "Use of Remote Sensing Techniques for Monitoring Volcanoes and Seismogenic Areas", to be held in Naples (Italy), November 11 to 14, 2008. More info available at http://www.userest.org/ the web site is not always online, as some pages are still under construction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second workshop on USE of Remote Sensing Techniques (USEReST) for Monitoring Volcanoes and Seismogenic Areas Naples, Italy, November 11-14, 2008 Following the first workshop held in June 2005, the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) and the Italian National Research Council (CNR), with the support from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI), organize the second workshop on "Use of Remote Sensing Techniques for Monitoring Volcanoes and Seismogenic Areas". The workshop will be held in Naples (Italy) and will be managed by Vesuvius Observatory (INGV-OV) and by the Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of Environment (IREA-CNR). Objective The workshop should provide a platform to share the experience of different groups in order to formulate technical and general requirements for future activities on Earth Observation based services. The focus should be on the operational use of Earth Observation data in a real monitoring scenario rather than on new scientific results. The user community is called to indicate the technological gaps that may limit the full exploitation of EO data in the everyday monitoring practice; the developer community is expected to indicate the new operational features likely attainable in the near future. A follow up of the conclusions of the first workshop, with respect to possible new user requirements and recently launched sensors, is also welcome. The final aim of the workshop is to gather all these contributions in order to synthesize the state of the art in monitoring volcanoes and seismogenic areas with EO data and to suggest future lines and perspectives. Suggested Topics: -Current projects and perspectives of the use of EO data -EO data in the user practice -Science Advances towards operational use of EO data -Integration of EO and ground based data -EO data and information distribution policies The workshop will be organized in thematic sessions followed by round table discussions with active interaction between presenters and the audience. A poster session is also planned. The workshop will be held in the city of Naples (Italy), on November 11-14, 2008. Abstracts (max 1 page) will be accepted by electronic submission at http://www.userest.org. The abstract submission deadline has been fixed to August 1, 2008 (extended). Full length papers (3 to 6 pages) relative to accepted abstracts will be included in the IEEE Conference Publications Program (CPP). Therefore, all the accepted conference paper will be available on the IEEE Xplore(R) library soon after the workshop. The official language of the workshop is English. No participation fees will be charged. No financial contributions are available to support participation to the workshop: participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses. For updated information about the workshop, please refer to the website http://www.userest.org, or contact the organizing committee via e-mail at info@xxxxxxxxxxx Dates: Abstract submission Aug 1, 2008 Notification of acceptance Aug 29, 2008 Full paper October 15, 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Best regards, Sven Borgström. ============================================================== To unsubscribe from the volcano list, send the message: signoff volcano to: listserv@xxxxxxx, or write to: volcano-request@xxxxxxxx To contribute to the volcano list, send your message to: volcano@xxxxxxxx Please do not send attachments. ==============================================================
