Colleagues

We would like to remind you of the upcoming IAVCEI abstract deadline on 1
April, and use this opportunity to draw your attention to the session 2-L
"Physical characteristics of ignimbrites".

The shape, distribution and physical appearance of ignimbrite deposits
is influenced by many factors, occurring on a range of scales, both
during and post-emplacement. This session will be concerned with
observations and measurements of ignimbrites from field to remote
sensing level that can lead to better characterization of ignimbrite
extents, sources, lithologies, welding intensity (rank or grade), and
depositional, post-depositional, and erosion histories. This increased
understand of ignimbrite properties will lead to a greater
understanding of emplacement mechanisms and the processes behind
large-scale eruptive volcanism.

This session will focus on:
- Surface characteristics and geomorphology
- Physical structure (e.g., layers or zones within ignimbrites and
their interpretation)
- Ignimbrite features (e.g., degassing pipes)
- Welding
- Post-emplacement features (e.g., vapor-phase alteration)
- Erosional properties and features
