Dear colleagues,

please note the special session on volatiles is magmas at
the 2008 IAVCEI meeting. See info below.

1-j Volatiles in magmas: Sources, speciation, solubility,
vesiculation and degassing

Conveners:
Tobias Fischer, Department of Earth and Planetary
Sciences, University of New Mexico, fischer@xxxxxxx
Yuri Taran, Institute of Geophysics, Universidad Nacional
Autonoma de Mexico, taran@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
David Hilton, Geosciences Research Division, Scripps
Institution of Oceanography, drhilton@xxxxxxxx
Sigurður Steinþórsson, Institute of Earth Sciences,
University of Iceland, sigst@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

This session is dedicated to magmatic volatiles including
studies of the relationships between volatile compositions
and eruptive activity, the role of volatiles in element
transport processes from the Earth's interior to the
surface, the evolution of the Earth's interior due to
volatile recycling and the role of volatiles in the
formation of Earth's atmosphere and oceans.

This session will focus on:
- volcanic gas emissions
- melt inclusion and phenocryst studies
- remote sensing of volatile emissions
- stable and radiogenic isotope applications to volatile
studies
- experimental and modeling approaches
- vesiculation and volatile solubility studies
