Applications are invited for the post of

COMPUTER PROGRAMMER/IT SPECIALIST

Applications are invited for a highly motivated computer programmer to
join a team of developers at the Seismic Research Unit, UWI engaged in
the development of a real-time data acquisition and processing system
for the detection and reporting of geologic events such as earthquakes,
volcanic and tsunamis.   The applicant should be experienced in a range
of computer technologies and possess good communication skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Assist in set up and development of seismic data-acquisition system.
• Integrate new and legacy seismic data processing software.
• Develop and implement automation of procedures for seismic, GPS and
other data.
• Develop a data storage and retrieval system to archive seismic data
and other data.
• Other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A first degree with major in Mathematics and/or Computer Sciences.  A
postgraduate degree in Computer Science would be an asset.

EXPERIENCE

• Scripting using Perl or similar language.
• Web development.
• Experience with Microsoft Operating Systems, including Windows 98,
2000 and XP.
• Experience with Unix or Linux Operating Systems.
• Experience in Computer Networking.
• Experience in design of database programming in, for example, SQL.
MySQL or Oracle.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Java programming languages.
• Familiarity with seismic software packages, for instance Earthworm and
Seisan, would be an advantage.
