This is a reminder to potential participants at the 2007 Cities on Volcanoes meeting to be held in Shimabara, Japan, November 19-23. The convenors of Session 2-2 - "Impacts of volcanic activity on infrastructure and effective risk reduction strategies" - welcome and encourage your submissions on a wide range of topics including eruption impact studies; response plans; effective warning systems and evacuation criteria for utilities; role of infrastructure in large-scale evacuations; managing sediment discharge following tephra accumulation; monitoring of hydrologic processes and topographic changes; engineering approaches to directly control volcanic risk (e.g., Sabo dams, drainage tunnels, degassing pipes); economic consequences of volcanic eruptions; and cost-benefit analyses of mitigation measures. We have already received a number of interesting presentations and look forward to more.

Co-convenors: N. Anyoji, R. Imura, J.Kurihara, Y. Nakamura, C. Neal, T. Pierson, and G. Zuccaro

The deadline for abstract submission is: May 31, 2007.

Please see this web site for full details of this important and exciting meeting:
