Changes in the Team of Editors for Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research
From: Friso Veenstra <l.veenstra@xxxxxxxxxxxx>
**************************************

Bruce Marsh and Steve Weaver stepped down per 2007 - John Eichelberger, Joan
Martí, and Jurgen Neuberg taking on the Editorship

After seventeen years of Editorship, Bruce Marsh and Steve Weaver decided to
step down from the Team of Editors for the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal
Research. During their time as Editors, Steve and Bruce were very actively
involved with the Journal and the many papers submitted, and they have
contributed substantially to the scientific standards achieved by JVGR today.

Earlier this year, John Eichelberger, Joan Marti, Jurgen Neuberg accepted our
invitation to join the Team of Editors.
- John Eichelberger is Professor of Volcanology at the University of Alaska,
Fairbanks, and coordinating scientist in the Alaska Volcano Observatory. John's
primary scientific contributions have been toward understanding the origins of
andesitic magmas and the factors that control explosive versus effusive eruption
styles.
- Joan Martí is a Research Professor at the Institute of Earth Sciences of the
Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Barcelona. Joan has conducted much
research relating to the structure of calderas and the dynamics of
caldera-forming eruptions and associated hazards. He has studied explosive
volcanism in different modern and ancient volcanic environments.
- Jurgen Neuberg is Professor of Physical Volcanology at the University of
Leeds. Jurgen is co-ordinator of the European project MULTIMO,
'Multidisciplinary monitoring, modelling and forecasting of volcanic hazard',
and chairman of the working group 'Seismic phenomena associated with volcanic
activity' of the European Seismological Commission. His main research interest
is the seismological investigation of the lowermost mantle and the core-mantle
boundary.

On behalf of the Team of Editors, the Publisher would like to take this
opportunity to thank Bruce and Steve for their major contributions to JVGR. At
the same time, we would like to welcome John, Joan and Jurgen and wish them
every success in their new positions.

Furthermore, we would like to inform the readers and authors of the Journal of
Volcanology and Geothermal Research of a change in the editorial system and
procedure for the journal. As of May 1st, 2007, the journal will be managed by a
group of six Chief Editors:

Dr Giovanni Chiodini
Osservatorio Vesuviano
Naples
Italy

Professor John Eichelberger
Department of Geology and Geophysics
University of Alaska Fairbanks
Fairbanks, AK
USA

Dr Margaret T. Mangan
Volcano Hazards Team
US Geological Survey
Menlo Park, CA
USA

Professor Joan Martí
Institute of Earth Sciences "Jaume Almera"
CSIC
Barcelona
Spain

Professor Jurgen W. Neuberg
Institute of Geophysics & Tectonics
University of Leeds
Leeds
UK

Professor Lionel Wilson
Environmental Science Department
Lancaster University

Contributors are free to select the Editor of their choice for the submission of
papers. For author instructions, we would like to refer you to http://ees.elsevier.com/volgeo.
By changing the system we hope to increase the speed of publication and to
achieve a more direct contact between the authors and Editors of the journal.
