AVO has received the following information concerning a Russian volcano.
Because of the current KVERT funding crisis, this information is being released
by AVO in accordance with "KVERT PROJECT -- OPERATIONAL AGREEMENT FOR 2007-08".

All times are in Kamchatkan Standard Time (KST) unless otherwise noted.

SHEVELUCH VOLCANO: 56°38'N, 161°19'E; Elevation 3,283 m (10,770 ft) dome
elevation ~2,500 m (~8200 ft)

An explosive event at Sheveluch Volcano between 0150 and 0230 UTC March 29
produced an ash cloud that reached in excess of 32,000 ft based on visual
estimates. The Tokyo Volcanic Ash Advisory Center and Yelizovo Meteorological
Watch Office reported ash at 38-39,000 ft and moving to the northeast at 20 km
per hour.

The event appears to have been short-lived; web camera imagery of the volcano
at this time shows no further ash production.

No further information is available at this time.
